Sir Malcolm Grant is chairman of NHS England, and is also Chancellor of the University of York, international consultant on higher education, and board director of Genomics England Ltd.

He is a barrister, born and educated in New Zealand, and served for 10 years (2003-2013) as President and Provost of UCL (University College London, now ranked as one of the top 10 universities in the world) and was previously Pro Vice Chancellor of Cambridge. He maintains several international roles in higher education, in Hong Kong, Russia, Australia, the UK and the USA, and is President of the Council for At-risk Academics (CARA) that has for 80 years provided essential support for scholars in oppressive regimes, ranging from Nazi Germany in its early years to Syria and Zimbabwe today.
