Professor Merit E. Janow Dean, Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs
Merit E. Janow is an internationally recognized expert in international trade and investment and northeast Asia, with extensive experience in academia, government, international organizations and business. She is Dean of the faculty of the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and a Professor of Practice in International Economic Law and International Affairs at SIPA and affiliated faculty at Columbia Law School. In December, 2003 Professor Janow was elected for a four year term as one of the seven Members of the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Appellate Body – the first female to serve on the Appellate body. From 1997 to 2000, she served as the Executive Director of the first international antitrust advisory committee of the U.S. Department of Justice. Janow is on the Board of Directors of several technology and financial services corporations and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Trilateral Commission.
